  • Arrowleaf Balsomroot on a meadow before red rock…

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Rock formations under light midday clouds flowing overhead. Sandstone spires stand tall into the sky looking down from afar on yellow flowering Arrowleaf Balsomroot plants all around the foreground. The meadow comprises half the frame, and a hill rises green to change into the red ground and shrubs into formations of pure stone.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 2 frames.

  • Crater Lake early morning in the winter with the wind on water below moving

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Winter on Crater Lake: the snow covering the landscape is fresh. The vast lake is not entirely in the shadows of the clouds, as a break in the layer of thick low-level cover reveals light on the lake. The turbulent winds blow on the water, making their marks on the surface as they travel, along with the shadows. Blue sky patches are slowly covered by dawn clouds, which clearly precipitate on the opposing side of the caldera, near Wizard Hat Island. The ridge that comprises the crater’s rim, a drop of hundreds of feet, is a winter forest.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    43 seconds and 12 frames.

  • Sandstone monoliths under fast clouds which cast moving shade

    Scene notes:

Panning to the right over a red rock canyon, with low clouds of low-density float and meandering overhead, shadows quickly passing through the canyon floor and the large white boulder in the foreground (near clip end).
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 6 frames.

  • Mt Shasta wide facing east at sunset under pinkish…

    Scene notes:

… and blue sky, facing east at sunset to Mt Shasta. Here a low-level cloud strand streak off the summit, and mid-level altostratus clouds catch the colorful sunset light. The mountain (lower left) is snow-covered and stands beyond a foothill of Manzanita bushes and shrubs, as well as distant evergreen Conifers.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    43 seconds and 2 frames.

  • Clouds with Sierra Nevada range appearing from haze on meadows in the day

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Shadows play across the desert and mountain landscape as the camera pans rightwards. Shadows from these lower clouds that have moved overhead shift the light on the land. High clouds move onward while the stratus layer hugging the mountainous peaks transform in time and the higher wind. The higher north faces of these cliffsides are steeped in snow.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 8 frames.

  • 4 of 10 | Sierra Nevada Mountain range and midday clouds

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Medium and lower-level clouds, as well as a small ‘scudding’ layer that is halfway up the mountain’s slopes, transform all along this multicolored mountain and arid landscape of yellows, reds, and whites of snow pack on eroded cliff faces and meltwater channels (center of frame at beginning of clip).
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 15 frames.
