  • The sun sets on a forest hillside

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

A single Bigleaf maple tree, slanted from being windblown so often (such is nature), on a hillside in the woods. The beyond area visible in the background as openness. The sunset is reddening the scene, and the breeze is playing on the leaves harmlessly until the dark. Not included in the Dawn and Dusk since no visible sky is shown.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    17 seconds and 8 frames.

  • Sunset and dusk over cloudless skies in a meadow

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

In a sky that is perfectly clear of clouds, a small mountain valley with a single ridgeline sloping downwards gently further in the distance, which is lit by the sun slightly longer than the foreground. The sky quickly turns dark into a night sky, with lights from cars on a road passing, and planes flying. Over the course of the clip, several hours pass. Facing east at sunset and blue hour is less typical if this collection.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    16 seconds and 6 frames.

  • Steam from geyser in winter at Yellowstone 2 of 3

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Thermal vents surrounded by trees in the early morning release steam into cold air, which speeds condensation from hot water. The temperature contrast is higher in winter and colder weather.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    9 seconds.

  • Looking up among ferns and a broken tree; light rays

    Scene notes:

Scattered ferns in the frame, light rays above: there is a large and tall tree stump at left, and many fine light rays pass into the forest from fog ending just above. SKU/clip number: FRS056.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps): 17 seconds.

  • Steam from hot springs in winter at Yellowstone 1 of 3

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Hot springs venting steam, resembling rapidly rising clouds. Due to the energetic and copious steam from unusually high activity, this has the fastest motion of all timelapses on this site.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    9 seconds.

  • Panning past a tree trunk to a forest hillside in the afternoon

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

A lichen-covered tree is panned past, towards a steep downward slope of a mossy-floored evergreen forest. Shadows pass the ground as they move with the sun’s angle later into the day. At clip’s end, a blue pond far below is seen in the upper-right frame.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    11 seconds and 23 frames.
