  • Growing sunrise light grows to meadow from Grand Tetons to daylight

    Scene notes:

Brilliantly lit by the reflection of the ocean, these mid-level clouds show intricate details in vivid colors. An upper-level Cirrus formation also flies above that layer, shining. The sun sets behind these Cirrus. In the bottom-fifth, the reflective ocean waves pour in far below and beyond to the horizon.

    Scene notes:

… higher clouds at sunset. Post-sunset, underneath the clouds, the light is caught. Moving to the right, a gradual clearing of glowing mid-level clouds give way to Cirrus clouds still bright in the sunset light in the upper-right half of the frame.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    19 seconds and 11 frames.

  • Morning virga clouds with cirrus mixed around

… under clouds and shadows beyond a small lake. Past a lake, in the distance on some rugged and steep hills leading to higher peaks, a large grove of Aspen trees is under frequent shadowing from heavier low clouds, which are moving away from the point of view. Snow can be seen on the higher altitudes in different places.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    5 seconds and 17 frames.

  • Shadows and the breeze on pristine waters of Crater Lake and Wizard Island

    Scene notes:

The lake caldera spans the frame, with Wizard Hat Island in the upper-right of the frame. The snow on the north facing slopes make the right-side of the frame a winter landscape around the water. The lake itself has many different breezes playing on its surface, owing to the shape of the rim that encircles it. Rocky cliffs frame the lower left and right, with smaller junipers and other species of trees.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 5 frames.
