  • Stark gold light rays slowly move around rolling lower clouds at sunset

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

A hole in the cloud cover, and one smaller, scudding cloud in between that and the observer is all it takes for potent light rays to show on the humid air near sunset. The cloud itself creates the shade on the glow and understanding that makes the crepuscular rays logical to understand. The sunlight has radiant intensity, and this shows to the observer the details of the landscape below; trees on vast hills surrounding some countryside and a small pond far away.

  • Extra-light clouds casting a few shadows transforming

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The snow-covered rim of both the north and southern rim of Grand Canyon is highlighted under moving lower, fluffy clouds. Clouds from outside the frame cast their dark shadows on the cliffs and rim as they pass swiftly in the winter wind, their transformations almost muted playsinline compared to the clouds of summer. The lower temperatures are responsible for the relatively sluggish air currents around and in the clouds themselves.

  • 1 of 3 | Low clouds moving at night over mountain range in moonlight

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

A night over a rocky landscape, winter mountains under a small bank of clouds include Mt Whitney. Very small, lower clouds rapidly roll in the sky in the upper frame with the stars in the blue moonlight. Mt Whitney is shown as a snowy saw-toothed ridge in the distance.

  • Sun going down over Icelandic ocean flowing under clouds lit by light

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The ocean flows hundreds of feet below, with the foreground the edge of a grassy cliff, initially comprising four-tenths of the frame. The frame pans upwards as the sun goes down, illuminating some of the stratus clouds from below. They are blown in the strong ocean winds, the same ones pushing the waves far below. The sun is shown going below the horizon. In the distance on the left, another headland of Iceland is apparent.

    16 seconds and 18 frames.

  • Silhouetted hill side by a city suburb at night

    Scene notes:

What makes these scudding lower clouds so bright? Lights from nearby Walnut Creek impose their light from below on them, incandescent and brightest where the city itself is. The brightened clouds silhouette the trees of the hillside, as airplanes pass overhead rapidly. The sky has stars, and their number pales in comparison to the city lights in the landscape below on the lower-right of the frame. Now clip# NGT087.

  • 1 of 2 | Lake Tahoe at Emerald Bay with boats circling the island within

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The camera sits inches above rushing water which will flow into Lake Tahoe moments later. Boats are seen constantly motoring into this unique bay of the lake in the background, their wakes following and spreading out behind them. The middle ground is a landscape of rocks and evergreens. The sky composes the top fifth of the frame, with distant and massive growing rain clouds, and the sloping forest landscape imposing onto it. Shadows from clouds overhead pass through the scene onto the lake and away from the point-of-view. A

…which strobe, creep, and flow in the night sky. The continuation of another clip. High Cirrus, highlighted in red by normal light pollution from one of the most northern towns of Alberta, stand against the bright green of the northern lights. It is likely coincidence that makes the clouds and Aurora seem connected in some ways at parts of the sky. There is no ground horizon shown exempt for a small outline of trees in the bottom-right of the frame.

  • Time-lapse of colorful Altocumulus clouds scattering
