  • Afternoon on Yosemite Valley snowy river and clouds…

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… orographically building on cliffs above. Snow falling in Yosemite Valley looking southwest, in an opening by the river. The snow covers the ground; trees loom on the left before the cliffs which have clouds piling up and past the sheer face of rock. The clouds also pour over the right-side monolith, the sun behind them, and in between the rapid vapors are patches of open sky. Farther out are more cliffs under the same majestic clouds. Slightly higher than the low clouds are other thinner clouds that roam in the opposing direction against the deep blue.

  • 2 of 3 | Low clouds moving at night over mountain range in moonlight

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Mt Whitney is seen among its neighboring peaks in the Sierra Nevada range of mountains at night. With the long shutter speed of three seconds and an interval of five seconds and clouds quickly float overhead. The stratus clouds floating high enough fly over, the lower ones are caught and piled up on a few of the peaks. A landscape of hills made of smooth and rocks of varying sizes, from massive to minute, climbs to the left of the frame.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    6 seconds and 80 frames.

  • Glowing congestus clouds rambling at sunset, tall…

    Scene notes:

The denser the cloud, the less light the outside areas will allow the light to penetrate through, and this fact is displayed on these towering clouds at sunset. The slower speed is gentler to watch for those who may become motion sickness by watching playback closely. This is an issue for media buyers who have a different experience (after scrutinizing the clip on repeat) than those end-viewers who will only see the clip once. Time-lapse length (at 30 fps):52 seconds and 24 frames.

    Scene notes:

…clouds are illuminated from beyond the horizon, and below. Altocumulus Castellanus are mid-level clouds and have very intricate details, which are highlighted during sunset. A three second interval was used to show the progress of the colors shifting in the all-sky scene which is particularly majestic; these moderately dense clouds are named after the castle tops that sprout from streaking plumes.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    10 seconds and 13 frames.

  • Fast low-level clouds near sunset creating crepuscular rays

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

A longer interval of around ten seconds is used. Clouds in the late afternoon at have enough space between them to allow sunlight through, and the humidity brings out vibrant light rays. The clouds blow quickly on the land, and as the second half of the clip goes, the light rays are observed to rapidly shift with the openings of the cloud positions. These crepuscular rays are not uncommon in partly cloudy, high humidity skies one to three hours before sunset. With days being far longer, the summer has more time and opportunity for these rays to reach through. But clouds are less common in Oregon during the summer, so often fall and spring are fair times as the day progresses, and some clouds are persisting. Far below in the frame of the clip, meadows are shadowed frequently among a forested, hilly landscape, with a lake in the far distance before the coast range of buttes and mountains. Length at 30 fps: 16:15

  • Ascending flight above rocky, snowy hills and fir trees south of Lake Tahoe

    Scene notes:

As the UAS rises over the partly snowy, rocky forest mountain, Lake Tahoe comes into view, and a far-off mountainous rim around the cerulean blue lake, which clouds leave shifting shadows on from their layer.
