  • Mount Rainier with light clouds on its southern face

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

A majestic mountain, Mt Rainier has a batch of Cumulus clouds on two flanks this sunny morning. Shadows from them moving over the snow. These are their normal altitudes. The dormant volcano rears up above the alpine, snowy meadow of the foreground. The clouds find the mountain insurmountable, and minuscule cars are seen in the middle of the frame, adding slightly to the interest. A three second interval is used.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    38 seconds and 4 frames.

  • Momentary rainbow from below Inspiration Point

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

in Yosemite above Bridalveil Falls. There is a rainbow visible in the waterfall due to the angle of the sunlight. There is a 2-mile hike to climb to get here, away from Tunnel Viewpoint. The rainbow only appears part of the year, and heat-distortion from the day is usually visible.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    32 seconds and 8 frames.

  • High above clouds and volcanic landscapes

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… rolling cumuliform clouds into beyond. The clouds far below show signs of weak convection. The volcanic landscape is silhouetted, sloping slightly for a distance before dropping off. The stratus layer below flows slowly towards the right, while the lifting air currents run counter for their cycle above the layer below.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    29 seconds and 55 frames.

  • Marine layer over hills that are blanketing

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… the forest above Mill Valley and on Mt Tamalpais. Similar at a first glance to a creek in long exposures, fog flowing central of frame takes the shapes of running water, while remaining gaseous vapor. The layer that came in from the ocean runs far into the horizon. Even very far away on the horizon, headlands rise slightly above the stratus. Playback length at 30 fps: 25 seconds.

  • Slowly rolling in, a fog layer in the morning flowed tepidly through trees below

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

All Precipice clips take place on a steep drop-off, even if that drop is out of frame. They all have in common a cloud or fog layer either at below the point of view’s elevation and are at or near sunset.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    7 seconds and 17 frames.
