  • Meadows beneath virga and other colorful clouds flowing at sunset time

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Precipitation that evaporates in the dryer air that it falls into is called Virga. These low-level fluffy and convective, as well as stratus clouds, are shown with camera facing northeast, away from the direction of the sunset. Pleasant meadows and hills underline the pink and transforming clouds, with the Virga appearing more stationary.

    14 seconds and 16 frames.

  • Between Juniper trees, Grand Tetons range under fading pinkish high clouds

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The finest details are shown as these mid-level clouds above the Grand Tetons mountain range peaks above the tree line, far away. The very fine texture of a smaller cloud in particular, glowing in reds and pinks, lives shortly as the sun fades after it has already set. Juniper trees frame the mountains and span the vertical axis of the frame.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    11 seconds and 14 frames.

  • Rain cloud looms above at sunset as the sky is enveloped in a tinged storm

  • 2 of 3 | Sliding over mountain past green bushes and above the fog layer at dusk

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The partially mined-out north face of Mt Bohemia is displayed in the dusk light, behind a foreground of verdant shrubs with small flowers. Snow is laden in shadow on its scree (broken rocks) areas. The fog slowly laps on the foot of the mountain in the dusk light. The camera moves slowly on a dolly towards the left.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 14 frames.

  • 2 of 2 | Altostratus clouds cloaking the sun at dusk with scattering of color

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Cirrostratus (layered stratus) appears to be more Cirrocumulus when shined on by the sun below the horizon. A very distant mountain of the coastline in Oregon is backlit and made to look so small by the very colorful sky above with the colors of orange, pink and red, made better by a clear, flat, and blue patch of sky for contrast.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    13 seconds and 17 frames.

  • Mid and upper-level clouds shine and fade at sunset

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Floating past, a rapidly deteriorating Cumulus congestus (towering cloud) is absorbed by the slightly dryer air it moves into. Above, many layers of thinner clouds and medium-thick clouds also transform in the rapidly setting sun, which is out of frame at right the sky darkens, but brighter portions of clips can always be trimmed for use.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    11 seconds.

  • Mountain landscape silhouetted under scattering clouds at dusk

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

In the late afternoon, just before sunset, the sun has moved below the mountains. On the peaks, some clouds are created by the high winds and pour over the top of the frame. The foreground is a unique desert landscape of stone and decomposed granite.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    13 seconds and 11 frames.
