    .mp4″ type=”video/mp4″>

    Scene notes:

… on the wind in Yellowstone by a river with high contrast. A one second interval is used to capture the venting of these geysers in winter. With the colder temperature, more steam is visible, moving very quickly, in similar ways to a towering cloud on a small scale. A river runs through the lower portion of the frame.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    15 seconds and 22 frames.

  • Heavy steam created from geothermal energy, a geyser

    Scene notes:

…water as steam flows up, indistinguishable from clouds. An original, recently remastered time-lapse of the sky with clouds.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 3 frames.

  • Steam from geyser in winter at Yellowstone 3 of 3

    Scene notes:

Up very close to an active thermal vent in Yellowstone. The fastest motion even from a very short interval.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    13 seconds.

  • Steam from geyser in winter at Yellowstone 2 of 3

    Scene notes:

Thermal vents surrounded by trees in the early morning release steam into cold air, which speeds condensation from hot water. The temperature contrast is higher in winter and colder weather.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    9 seconds.

  • Steam from hot springs in winter at Yellowstone 1 of 3

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Hot springs venting steam, resembling rapidly rising clouds. Due to the energetic and copious steam from unusually high activity, this has the fastest motion of all timelapses on this site.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    9 seconds.
