  • 2 of 4 | Under peak color Aspen grove, medium-density clouds float by overhead and on mountains

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The mountains of the Sierra Nevada range do not entirely catch the low moving clouds on them, which are blowing and slightly billowing and casting shadows on the snowy peaks and cliffs. Below, the peak-coloring of the Aspen grove stretches closer from left to right. With leaves of varying colors from red (afar) to orange (middle ground) and greens with yellow (close). The age of the trees may provide hints as to the varying colors.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    18 seconds and 4 frames.

  • Pond reflects bright sunshine of sunset and the glow from hitting low clouds

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The tree line is a silhouette against the glowing sunset light, and is reflected perfectly in the pond. The scene darkens as the clip progresses, and the sun has set.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    13 seconds and 5 frames.

  • Mixed cloud sunset over rocky landscape and forest

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… in wilderness under clouds where the sun is seen. An exemplar of Altocumulus Castellanus near the center of the frame. Underlit with purple sunlight filtered from smoke, these clouds tower, owing that their names are derived from castle towers. At the end of playback, the sun can be seen brilliantly going down before disappearing into night. An airplane is seen zooming past in the sky, twice, in the upper-left frame. Upper-level Cirrocumulus clouds are gold in their altitude which gives them brilliant direct sunlight to the end.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 14 frames.

  • POV looking up at cloud layers shifting smoothly overhead as sun sets

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

This clip is illustrative of the under lighting that happens after the sun has set. From the altitude of the clouds, the light is still briefly shining on them, and the clouds are turned pink and red with oranges in between, and different levels of clouds are shown to move in differing directions according to the winds at those altitudes.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    4 seconds and 21 frames.

  • On a lake in the woods, sunset clouds transform

    Scene notes:

And change color in many forms, gold to pinkish red. Re-used in another cropping (atypical).

  • Pink subdued behind lower dark clouds with sun setting, seen from viewpoint

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

From the viewpoint on the hill, the valley and lake is seen below. While nine-tenths of the frame is composed of the sky’s clouds and glowing on distant mountains. Two layers of clouds are present, a low-level and medium-level. On the medium level, the glow of light supplements the direct under-lighting on it. Pinks, oranges, and reds play out on the sky as the sun peaks out one last time for the day in 2005. The lower-level clouds moves towards the camera.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 3 frames.

  • Dark cloud flows into the point of view with leading edge at dusk

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Precipitation and high wind; this Nimbus is not a violent one, but is dense and dark where it has its rain, like usual for a storm cloud. Rain is diffusing the glowing light below it, and the underside of the storm is lit from the ambient glow.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    10 seconds and 13 frames.
