  • 6 of 7 | Napali Coast beach sunset scene

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

A continuation of another clip (not in chronological order). The clouds will begin to glow as the sun comes out. High clouds cast shadows on the background headlands until the sun goes ‘below’ them in the sky. When this occurs, the foreground beach and ocean, as well as the middle and parts of the background, come fully into light. The clouds high in the sky are Cirrus.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    14 seconds and 8 frames.

Rain and shadows on Waimea Canyon. Waterfalls are visible on the opposite side of the canyon in the background (left). Plants on the right of the frame are blowing in the breeze. On the bottom left, orange stones are brighter under the shade of thinner clouds.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    15 seconds and 2 frames.

  • Motion of clouds over the shaded jungle setting

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… in Waimea Canyon in Kauai, Hawaii. Reds and greens like nowhere else. This old volcanic area has very young volcanic and erosion features. The jungle is everywhere soils can accumulate. Waterfalls and countless rock steps are throughout. The shadows are variable in their contrast and dimness. The clouds overhead are low and smoothly flowing, covering about half of the sky.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    29 seconds and 23 frames.

  • Napali coast beach w/ distant mountainous trees under gold sky

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Last of a series of clips in this scene, the sunlight leaves the view under the horizon, with small sunbeams defined by clouds on the horizon. Gold and glowing, mid-level clouds are brilliantly lit, and under them, the lower-level rain clouds are scattering over the headlands. The ocean is the lower quarter of the frame, and waves are observed on the beach. They’re ignited in reflected light under the ambient light of the sky. The sand of the beach is a space in the corner.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    3 seconds and 11 frames.

  • High above clouds and volcanic landscapes

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… rolling cumuliform clouds into beyond. The clouds far below show signs of weak convection. The volcanic landscape is silhouetted, sloping slightly for a distance before dropping off. The stratus layer below flows slowly towards the right, while the lifting air currents run counter for their cycle above the layer below.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    29 seconds and 55 frames.

  • Far above congestus clouds at sunset, rolling and losing thermal energy

    Scene notes:

The continuation of a clip from Day. Many clips of Precipice are like one another, and some share the same scene at different times. All Precipice clips take place on a steep drop-off, even if that drop is out of frame. They all have in common a cloud or fog layer either at below the point of view’s elevation and are at or near sunset.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    20 seconds and 12 frames.
