  • Vivid colorful light rays on clouds from mountain peak of Mt Whitney

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Light rays at sunset. Crepuscular rays fall from high humidity on mountaintops. The sun glows on the clouds as it sets behind Mt Whitney and the mountain ridge. The middle and background dims. The sunbeams shift as the clouds move and the sun sets below. The vivid, sharp rays are defined by the staggered peaks.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 25 frames.

  • 2 of 2 | Vivid light rays on fog through a cypress tree on a hill

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

A steady amount of fog pours through, while just above. Without a layer of cloud above, the full brightness of the sun is coming through the canopy at top-right, spreading out as sunbeams on the ferns, mossy rocks, and vegetation of the hill, which climbs 45 degrees and fills a third of the frame. A three second interval is used.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    18 seconds and 14 frames.

  • Fog falling slowly in a forest exposing the greens of conifers on the hillside trail

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Fog catches the sun and the shadows of the tall trees cast shadows on the glow. The hillside is steep and falls away from the left frame, covered in ferns and vegetation, which slowly move on the breeze. The fog slowly falls away, taking the sunbeams with it.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    32 seconds and 2 frames.

  • Light shaded through CirroCumulus clouds…

    Scene notes:

… also glow and shifts with the sun’s movement. A six second interval is used. Floridian trees are silhouetted from afar, slash pines and others, dense trees under ninety five percent sky. Where the humid air is glowed upon and the shadows, made from thicker patches of cloud obstructing the glow of the light, changes as the sun moves downward.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 21 frames.

  • Congestus clouds with light rain highlighted by rays in colorful sunset view

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

On rain, light rays are carved by the shade of the clouds which the sun is also illuminating vividly. Anvil top glow gold momentarily as the frame pans up to the setting where clouds speed by at multiple levels and pink plays on the highest, intricate details of the undersides of clouds- momentarily.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    10 seconds and 8 frames.

  • In thicker fog and dense forest, light rays persist

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… and shine when altitudes are just right. Light rays, cast by thin branches create the longest shadows cast on the glow of the sun, with the fog ending just feet above the trees. Mossy tree trunks and severed branches, remnants of them still on their trees, mostly at left, with a smaller fallen tree center-right. A few ferns are in the lower left corner of the frame, quivering slightly in a breeze.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    31 seconds and 3 frames.

  • Single tree next to a footpath is left of some light rays that vanish, reappear

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Small pines by the hiking trail. The light rays are dominant and clip’s beginning and end. There is a period of no fog in the middle of playback. The hiking trail passes by the tree at left. The greens of the trees are vibrant when the fog fades at clip’s end. Lens flare: partially present.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    15 seconds and 10 frames.

  • Slow moving fog before the forest, lit by the morning sun

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

One of the slowest-moving of the forest fog clips. Trees of varying age and size, all evergreen conifers, are the subjects of the frame, while the upper limits of a fog bank is. The sun pours through the branches, and the high radiant intensity on the fog makes for a bright light ray effect. A small fraction (lower left) of the frame is a grassy hill foreground. The greens on the lower right stand out, mossy branches of trees illuminated.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 3 frames.
