  • Mountain landscape silhouetted under scattering clouds at dusk

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

In the late afternoon, just before sunset, the sun has moved below the mountains. On the peaks, some clouds are created by the high winds and pour over the top of the frame. The foreground is a unique desert landscape of stone and decomposed granite.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    13 seconds and 11 frames.

  • Late day over lake with 6/10 density rolling darker cloud

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The sun is blocked by heavy low clouds, which hang over the lake, gloomy but dense and structured. The sun moves low and very close to sunset- but not quite. The light of what gets through the cloud shines on the lake. Original footage from 2005.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    38 seconds and 4 frames.

  • 1 of 2 | From Pikes Peak, clouds cast shadows

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… on fog far below that appear to slosh on forest. The continuation of another clip (the camera has been moved). The clouds float over Pike’s Peak, a mountain that is high above the stratus fog below, transforming rapidly. The mountain, a combination of smooth and jagged slopes, careens downward (right). The stratus far below shifts on otherwise low wind. The vista is wide and vast, and the sky is blue with exception of the white Cirrostratus layer and aforementioned Cumulus that plays at point of view-level.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    17 seconds and 4 frames.

  • Lightweight clouds, on wind above

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… and indistinguishable from fog, just above meadow and cedars. Very close low-level clouds interrupt the daylight on the grassy meadow with shadows. Higher mid-level clouds go their own direction. The tree line and hill make a visual saddle and open sky near bottom-center. The hillside rises gently. The tree line is on both the left and right of the frame.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    14 seconds and 17 frames.

  • 1 of 3 | Öxnadalur, northern Iceland, under clouds

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… just barely hiding the precipice. Stratus clouds on Öxnadalur. The spire seen moving in and out of the fog is an aiguille. Slivers of blue light in the sky overhead persist.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    16 seconds and 16 frames.

  • Svalbarð looking west in northern Iceland over water with clouds on hills in distance

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

A small ship is seen in the water steaming out to see late in the clip. Throughout, two layers of clouds. While fog rolls on the distant foothills of a mountain, the shadows break through where the upper layer gives way to sun. Time-lapse length (at 30 fps): 18 seconds and 5 frames.

  • 2 of 2 | From Pikes Peak, clouds cast shadows

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… on fog far below that appear to slosh on forest. The continuation of another clip. The camera’s orientation and position has been adjusted.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    17 seconds and 27 frames.

  • Late afternoon on a hillside, fog stirs behind trees

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The south flank of the top of Spencer Butte, with no sky shown, only fog lapping against the right-side of the forest just below, near sundown. A trail or two leads down to a few Atlas Cedars before the tree line, and a rocky foreground is above a grassy hillside slope.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    14 seconds and 6 frames.
