  • Shadows rising on San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge…

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

…overbright areas fade as the sun sets away from the point-of-view. Looking east in the late afternoon, you can observe ‘the City’ from afar, behind the long red bridge. Wind on water currents make ripples, as is the traffic on the 101 Highway that spans the bridge. Shadows become longer as the sun sets first on the foreground grassy slopes, and then the ocean bay.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    13 seconds and 20 frames.

  • Pink clouds Hawaii coastline and jungle mountains…

    Scene notes:

…with the yellow sand beach in the foreground. Looking north there is a small Cumulonimbus cloud over the Napali coast. In this short timespan time-lapse there is the light of the sun fading as it goes below the horizon and clouds far away from this beach. The warm day provides plenty of lift and vapor for these clouds, which keep their shapes well as they run into this lifting of air right above the coastline.

  • Time-lapse on beach under partly cloudy skies…

    Scene notes:

… with multiple layers of colorful glowing clouds at dusk. Looking up from a beach on Kauai, there are different cloud layers to be seen above. As the sky darkens, the upper-level clouds are illuminated from below. These small rain showers are common on the island chain where surface heating makes them bloom in the sun during daylight and dissipate at night. The lower storm cloud is raining moderately out-of-frame.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 12 frames.

  • Rainbow on Hawaii coastline and jungle mountains

    Scene notes:

…with beach in foreground. Kauai is the furthest west island of the Hawaiian chain, and on the furthest western beaches, nature has been left to prevail; although trucks ride on this lesser known beach, it has a big enough area to accommodate the people enjoying the solitude and beauty that is reminiscent of prehistory. A rainbow stretches and begins its second bow as conditions are nearing perfect for this formation; the rain is at the right distance with the sun being at the correct angle in the sky near sunset. As the day grows older the rainbow is more likely to appear, until a period before sunset when it is very likely to encounter clouds on the horizon, as it was apparent in this scene to the observant during filming using two or three second intervals.

  • Shadows flow smoothly on mountainous Napali coast mountains

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The shoulders of this steep hillside or mountain side is one of many cloaked partially by rain and cloud. A significant mass of damp air gets caught on these features almost daily, due to the temperature and humidity of the island which is owed to the location of Hawaii on the Earth. A bare amount of cerulean sky is visible, but the scene is mostly cloudy.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    7 seconds and 27 frames.

  • Alto, cirrocumulus above while panning on the wild…

    Scene notes:

Castellanus clouds (castle top clouds) are named for their towering appearance; these mid-level clouds have the most intricate and brilliant lighting while shapeshifting above the wild forest hills at sunset, oranges, golds, pinks, purples, and pale blues.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    7 seconds and 21 frames.

  • Afternoon on Yosemite Valley snowy river and clouds…

    Scene notes:

… orographically building on cliffs above. Snow falling in Yosemite Valley looking southwest, in an opening by the river. The snow covers the ground; trees loom on the left before the cliffs which have clouds piling up and past the sheer face of rock. The clouds also pour over the right-side monolith, the sun behind them, and in between the rapid vapors are patches of open sky. Farther out are more cliffs under the same majestic clouds. Slightly higher than the low clouds are other thinner clouds that roam in the opposing direction against the deep blue.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    8 seconds and 18 frames.
