    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Small pines by the hiking trail. The light rays are dominant and clip’s beginning and end. There is a period of no fog in the middle of playback. The hiking trail passes by the tree at left. The greens of the trees are vibrant when the fog fades at clip’s end. Lens flare: partially present.

    15 seconds and 10 frames.

  • Mount Rainier night to morning with climbers…

    Scene notes:

… and their small lights ascending before dawn. Multi-categorized clip. The moon sets behind Mt Rainier. Looking closely afterward, a distant, single climbing party’s headlights are shown ascending the rugged and impressive slope overnight. Morning comes, a blue hour, and far, far behind some conifers, the snow of the mountain becomes pink momentarily against the rapidly changing sky, until the sky is light blue, and it is day again.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    38 seconds and 4 frames.

  • 1 of 2 | Behind trees, a small fog blanket rolls on Lake Tahoe at sunrise

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Pines and other conifers are framing the sky on all sides of the scene in the early morning above Lake Tahoe, which is surrounded by a forest, and blanketed partially with a fog layer. The sky quickly brightens as high clouds and an airplane contrail turn all the colors of sunrise. The ground is snowy. A similar clip exists.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    38 seconds and 4 frames.

  • Slow moving fog before the forest, lit by the morning sun

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

One of the slowest-moving of the forest fog clips. Trees of varying age and size, all evergreen conifers, are the subjects of the frame, while the upper limits of a fog bank is. The sun pours through the branches, and the high radiant intensity on the fog makes for a bright light ray effect. A small fraction (lower left) of the frame is a grassy hill foreground. The greens on the lower right stand out, mossy branches of trees illuminated.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 3 frames.

  • Vivid light rays on fog through a cypress tree on a hill

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Generally speaking, the foggy forest is not a dynamic source of light- it’s normally diffuse and thick enough so the light above cannot even penetrate it. But when the ceiling of the fog is at the altitude of the observer, the sunbeams highlight the ferns on the forest floor.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    10 seconds and 20 frames.

  • Looking south from tourist point over Golden Gate

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Bridge with lightest fog obscuring a city view. On the opposite of the historical bridge, a fog layer persists, blowing through the traffic (right) and concealing the city beyond (left).
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    18 seconds and 16 frames.

  • The rays appear to come from the lower frame, mossed branches backlit

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Pine bristles and light rays. The fog ceiling is breaking and allows for surprise light rays to shine through the branches. Blue sky is above and seen through the evergreen tree canopy.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    10 seconds and 10 frames.

  • 1 of 2 | Vivid light rays on fog through a cypress tree on a hill

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The opening in the forest hillside allows light rays to shine on the grassy ground. Panning downward from where the fog is brightest, the ceiling provides the sunlight needed to filter through the trees and create such intricate shadows and glow.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    8 seconds and 13 frames.
