  • 2 of 4 | Under peak color Aspen grove, medium-density clouds float by overhead and on mountains

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The mountains of the Sierra Nevada range do not entirely catch the low moving clouds on them, which are blowing and slightly billowing and casting shadows on the snowy peaks and cliffs. Below, the peak-coloring of the Aspen grove stretches closer from left to right. With leaves of varying colors from red (afar) to orange (middle ground) and greens with yellow (close). The age of the trees may provide hints as to the varying colors.

The clouds float over Pike’s Peak, a mountain that is high above the stratus fog below, transforming rapidly. The mountain, a combination of smooth and jagged slopes, careens downward (right). The stratus far below shifts on otherwise low wind. The vista is wide and vast, and the sky is blue with exception of the white Cirrostratus layer and aforementioned Cumulus that plays at point of view-level.

    Scene notes:

… clifftops, dance over a lone tree. Water vapor, condensed by the extra wind as it rides over peaks. It will not behave in the way a cloud does without the sharp differences of the Earth. The snowy mountain peak has many aiguilles and towers, and the top edges are cornices and snow ridges. A large fluting spans the height of the peak to the base. At right, the fall-colored red-yellow leaves on the main tree quiver slightly in the breeze that pushes the cloud shadows slowly overhead and the landscape. The
