    Scene notes:

… after-sunset lighting on high clouds. This mid-level cloud layer dominating the sky with small patches has clouds resembling Lenticulars. If the layer of cloud were thicker in its altitude, the lens shapes would be more apparent. A wispy row of Cirrus is absorbed in the cooling sky, pink colors fading with them, and below on the surface, a highway curves by a skyline of Sacramento, and extend west with lights of individual cars passing by in hyper speed; 90 x 60 mph = 12900mph apparent ‘playback’ speed. 90 represents the speed of the time-lapse over ‘real’ time. The Time-lapse length of the clip at 30 fps is eight seconds and ten frames.

  • Night moonrise at Grand Canyon looking northeast

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

From a point in Grand Canyon, the horizon may be level, but the land isn’t; this is owed to the nature of the geography of the surroundings of the National park. The bright object illuminating the landscape is not the sun, but the moon. A long exposure captures the light for a period of time to greatly intensify the brightness of the scene in comparison to the human eye. Smoke wafts in the canyon from a wildfire.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    32 seconds and 8 frames.

  • 1 of 2 | Comet Neowise, as the night sky appears…

    View with alternate video source
Scene notes: Appearing to rotate, it is the Earth that spins. Comet Neowise passed by Earth in the summer of 2020. The comet’s tail is a fine contrail in the starry sky. Near the horizon, where it seems stationary in the rotating sky, the frame is enlarged using digital pan ‘n scan, a nineties term, meaning digital zoom. The extra resolution of the original images allows this. Meteorites can be observed in digital frames, as well as airplanes, zooming by in just a few frames.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    15 seconds and 28 frames.
  • 1 of 2 | A snowy and frosted forest hill is brightly lit up at sunset

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

A very snowy forest hill with a steep slope, and only one mossy stone. A magic hour sunset illuminates the snow, and the snow takes on ambient light, pink, while some direct sunlight gets through the woods to shine directly on nearby, snowy branches, frosted from a night and day of freezing temperatures. A five second interval is used.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 15 frames.

  • Vivid light rays, sun beams looking up into winter…

    Scene notes:

A foggy forest as the fog moves just overhead. The sun is nearly centered, and light rays, sunbeams, pour through the trees because of the fog layer that is breaking right around the POV. Shadows are created and the glow has a defined depth from the tree shapes. The digital zoom slowly pulls away by eight percent or so. A two second interval is used.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    13 seconds and 19 frames.

  • Shapeshifting fog just below with upper-level clouds illuminated at sunset

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Sandwiched between layers of clouds, where just below, the sun shines on stratus fog vividly at sunset, creating these pink wave crests of the fog, steadily moving and shifting on a wind. Far beyond, an Altostratus layer filters out a little light, but closer above, the stratus layer has its lower surface is made golden by the sun’s glow. From reddish to pink, the sky majestically plays into dusk.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    13 seconds and 2 frames.

    Scene notes:

…clouds float by overhead and on mountains. White-trunked, orange and yellow Aspens are the dominant color shown in this grove that lives on the foothills of snowy mountains of the Sierras, which are steeped in low, fluffy clouds which move steadily through but also linger on the cliffs. The lower left third of the frame has shrubs and sagebrush.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    6 seconds and 22 frames.
