  • Crater Lake early morning in the winter with the wind on water below moving

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Winter on Crater Lake: the snow covering the landscape is fresh. The vast lake is not entirely in the shadows of the clouds, as a break in the layer of thick low-level cover reveals light on the lake. The turbulent winds blow on the water, making their marks on the surface as they travel, along with the shadows. Blue sky patches are slowly covered by dawn clouds, which clearly precipitate on the opposing side of the caldera, near Wizard Hat Island. The ridge that comprises the crater’s rim, a drop of hundreds of feet, is a winter forest.

    Scene notes:

Many lower clouds and a light Nimbus cloud on the valley view below. Rain is visible in the distance. The landscape comprises a fifth of the frame, green and shadowed.

  • Shadows and the breeze on pristine waters of Crater Lake and Wizard Island

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The lake caldera spans the frame, with Wizard Hat Island in the upper-right of the frame. The snow on the north facing slopes make the right-side of the frame a winter landscape around the water. The lake itself has many different breezes playing on its surface, owing to the shape of the rim that encircles it. Rocky cliffs frame the lower left and right, with smaller junipers and other species of trees.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 5 frames.

  • Over small sand dunes 100m away, the ocean below

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

…some fair-weather clouds in the midday blue sky. The shadows of sand dunes slowly creep longer on the sand. The ocean stretches away into the distance to the right. European beach-grass was introduced in the early 20th century- but its spread poses changes to the dune’s existence themselves. Its ability to live in sand is a double-edged sword for the local ecology. A largely cloudy Cirrus sky in the top third of the frame moves inland towards the right of the frame, but it has not yet fully shaded the foreground and beach beyond until late in the clip.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    15 seconds and 5 frames.

  • 1 of 2 | Large heavy clouds over vast Crater Lake

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… late afternoon cast shadows on the sparing water beneath. A very strong and stochastic wind moves the surface of the water below on Crater Lake, which covers roughly half the frame. Wizard Hat Island is seen near top-right. Visibility is good if not for heavy lower clouds passing overhead, with the sun peeking through to light up the foreground. .
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    15 seconds and 24 frames.

  • Shade moves slowly on the forest hillside until sunset

    Scene notes:

On the forest floor of a hillside, the late day shadows shift among the branches, leaves, and ferns.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):

  • Congestus clouds with light rain highlighted by rays in colorful sunset view

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

On rain, light rays are carved by the shade of the clouds which the sun is also illuminating vividly. Anvil top glow gold momentarily as the frame pans up to the setting where clouds speed by at multiple levels and pink plays on the highest, intricate details of the undersides of clouds- momentarily.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    10 seconds and 8 frames.
