… in daylight heating above distant trees. Birth of a Cumulonimbus, a rising congestus carrying
enough moisture to darken and sprout rain while it grows nearer. This exemplar of a congestus, a
towering Cumulus cloud that has not become a Nimbus, reaches higher and higher into the sky until the
day has become cloudy with a high chance of precipitation. Often other low stratus clouds obscure
clouds like this, but they are quite common.

orange colors on the fading rain at right of the frame. Silhouetted bare ridges in the lower quarter,
under these clouds that darken in as time progresses, the open sky a perfect Mid-blue.

Quickly flowing down the east face of the mountain range, cold air condenses water molecules in the
warmer air of the eastern slope, creating a long and ephemeral cloud along the normal fault where the
Sierras end in the east.
