  • Sierra Nevada Mountain range and late-day clouds side-lit and flowing off

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Approximately half the frame is shadowed in a mountain’s shade, with desert plants in the foreground meadow. The clouds flow off the ridge, and every air current can be seen on the outer edges of these clouds, which run aground on the top-left of the frame, billowing, and crawling.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    11 seconds and 22 frames.

  • Vast winter viewpoint from Inyo Mountains

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… landscape below with Sierra Nevada range. On the Inyo range east of the Sierra Nevada, one sees deep into the range to the west, countless peaks spanning north-south. A few at right are under stratus clouds, but the large majority are Cirrus fibratus, dense enough to shade the landscape as they pass over the snowy Bristlecone pine-filled hillsides and slopes, which are some of the oldest trees.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 13 frames.

  • 1 of 4 | Over the Bay, planes land at San Francisco…

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

…Airport, SFO at night under rainy clouds. Continental traveling airplanes are seen landing over the bay diagonally across the frame. The bright lights of a few are visible among the other city lights, taxiing for takeoff or to their gates. In the bottom quarter of the frame the water moves, and reflects the light of the clouds, illuminated in the city’s lighting. The lower stratus clouds bring rain on the city across the water.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    9 seconds and 18 frames.

  • 2 of 4 | Under peak color Aspen grove, medium-density clouds float by overhead and on mountains

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The mountains of the Sierra Nevada range do not entirely catch the low moving clouds on them, which are blowing and slightly billowing and casting shadows on the snowy peaks and cliffs. Below, the peak-coloring of the Aspen grove stretches closer from left to right. With leaves of varying colors from red (afar) to orange (middle ground) and greens with yellow (close). The age of the trees may provide hints as to the varying colors.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    18 seconds and 4 frames.

    Scene notes:

The continuation of another clip. The camera position and exposure has been adjusted.

    10 seconds and 1 frame.

  • Quickly panning up on Spanish moss covering…

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… branches in the woods as shadows move on them. Spanish moss has grown long on these coniferous trees of the scene, which close-up, shows the shadows of other trees and its own branches moving in time. The frame digitally pans downward as the day becomes late, and shadows long. The far-hanging moss is the last feature of these close trees still evident in the light.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    28 seconds and 6 frames.

  • Before a large hill in background, a creek runs…

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… through a forest with clouds building above. A creek flows through a Colorado forest with a butte-sized land feature in the background (right) showing between the opening of trees at the river’s command. Clouds float and meander, building, above. The evergreen coniferous forest is just behind the large creek crossing, which has stones and boulders throughout. The creek is rushing in the sunlight after shadows from the clouds clear.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    25 seconds and 17 frames.

  • Panning over Desolation Wilderness landscape

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… from viewpoint of clouds slowly shifting shadows on forest. Nimbostratus clouds impose shadows upon the wilderness scene intermittently. The foreground, a viewpoint ridge which the camera pans over, is intricately detailed with yellow flowers and stone. The protected landscape beyond is a mix of hilly forest and rocky land features of rugged terrain further away, with Mt Tallac visible in the far-distant left.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    17 seconds and 6 frames.
