  • 1 of 2 | From Pikes Peak, clouds cast shadows

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… on fog far below that appear to slosh on forest. The continuation of another clip (the camera has been moved). The clouds float over Pike’s Peak, a mountain that is high above the stratus fog below, transforming rapidly. The mountain, a combination of smooth and jagged slopes, careens downward (right). The stratus far below shifts on otherwise low wind. The vista is wide and vast, and the sky is blue with exception of the white Cirrostratus layer and aforementioned Cumulus that plays at point of view-level.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    17 seconds and 4 frames.

  • Very few shadows from lightest clouds roam

    Scene notes:

…under Grand Canyon viewpoint in the snowy winter. A foreground of white, a middle ground of orange stone, and a background of all the stone colors of the southwest. Light clouds, low level fluffy formations, cast crawling shadows on the vast boulder fields, rock steps and corniced ridgelines and summits of the canyon.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    17 seconds and 8 frames.

  • 1 of 2 | Panning past icicles and moss in the forest where shadows move

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Similar to another clip in this scene, the camera is reset in another position. The overhang of moss and a hillside can be an ideal place for icicle formation, as this scene makes apparent. Very low or no wind makes the shade from tree limbs and twigs soft and stably moving across the ground in a predictable direction as the camera slowly pans to the right. Snow still exists in spots on the forest floor, adjacent to these large icicles, droplets visibly forming on their tips of them.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    25 seconds and 2 frames.

  • Kauai alternate viewpoint of Waimea Canyon under clouds and some shade

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Rain and shadows on Waimea Canyon. Waterfalls are visible on the opposite side of the canyon in the background (left). Plants on the right of the frame are blowing in the breeze. On the bottom left, orange stones are brighter under the shade of thinner clouds.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    15 seconds and 2 frames.

  • Forest shadows moving with time over the purple flower of the creek

    Scene notes:

Camas flower in and out of shade as the sun moves behind trees, shading the purple flower
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    9 seconds and 16 frames.

  • Lightweight clouds, on wind above

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… and indistinguishable from fog, just above meadow and cedars. Very close low-level clouds interrupt the daylight on the grassy meadow with shadows. Higher mid-level clouds go their own direction. The tree line and hill make a visual saddle and open sky near bottom-center. The hillside rises gently. The tree line is on both the left and right of the frame.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    14 seconds and 17 frames.

  • 1 of 3 | Öxnadalur, northern Iceland, under clouds

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… just barely hiding the precipice. Stratus clouds on Öxnadalur. The spire seen moving in and out of the fog is an aiguille. Slivers of blue light in the sky overhead persist.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    16 seconds and 16 frames.

  • Among Douglas fir trees, foggy light rays shine through

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

These Yellowflag Iris flowers are an exemplar of their kind. Panning past this stone covered in lichen and moss, the flowers quiver in the spring breeze on this hilltop. The ground has the shade of a conifer tree trunk moving over the grass and stones.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    25 seconds and 2 frames.
