  • Sun going beneath horizon and clouds at sunset

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Telephoto time-lapse with 1 second interval. The sun is observed at the ocean with a short exposure to capture the shape as it moves behind clouds. The sky is dark once the sun sets. The last few seconds remind one of a liquid droplet as the sun moves through more atmosphere on the far edges of visibility. Slivers of a long-distant cloud deep in the Pacific Ocean are completely silhouetted.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    22 seconds and 12 frames.

  • Behind one cloud, the sun sets in a gold humid sky

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

A slower time-lapse with a one second interval used. The sun moves down in the highly humid sky, which is glowing from the sun’s radiant intensity. When the sun moves below the horizon and frame, the few lingering distant clouds remain on the very stable air with almost no wind.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    53 seconds.

  • Sun telephoto sinking down under horizon, optical refraction

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Extreme close-up view of the setting sun. Optical distortion from the atmosphere, and extremely distant clouds from an unknown distance span the length of the orb while it is nearest the horizon.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    40 seconds and 20 frames.

  • The sun alone setting on the ocean into and below the horizon

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The continuation of another clip, the scene continues into ‘blue hour’.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    8 seconds and 18 frames.

  • Sun sinks at sunset behind upper-level clouds and valley below

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

On high clouds and forest hills, the sun sets. The view extends all the way to Mt June, on the far-right of the frame. Partial sunset.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    33 seconds and 21 frames.

  • 1 of 2 | Upper-level clouds cloaking the sun at dusk with scattering of color

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Different shadows from the varying cloud cover. Cirrostratus are seen from afar near the horizon. This layer of moisture is dense enough to be opaque with the sun directly behind it. The sliver of blue-sky between clouds persists.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 8 frames.
