  • 1 of 2 | Clouds at night illuminated partly

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… by city light under stars, aircraft flying over Observable are high Cirrus clouds passing out of the sky’s starry night. Land sky traffic is visible above Lake Tahoe City on the opposite end of the lake. Taken by the northwest of the lake with cedars making a silhouette (left).
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    36 seconds and 25 frames.

  • Behind a lone hilltop tree, the night sky is clear

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The outline of the Milky Way and Andromeda is visible above the Juniper and other conifer trees, as the Earth whirls and spins, but of course it’s the sky that appears to be rotating. The camera physically pans downward. Airplanes and meteorites are visible. Nearer to the horizon is more light pollution from the central California valley. Aircraft
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    21 seconds and 12 frames.

  • Lower clouds shift light on alpine trees

    Scene notes:

An original, recently remastered time-lapse of the sky with clouds.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    14 seconds.

  • Above Jasper Park mountains, dim aurora and night sky

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

A small portion of the frame has the mountains silhouetted on the Northern Lights. The other roughly 95 percent of the frame comprises stars. The Aurora flash stochastically as the long exposures span the length of time that the light intensifies and dims.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    7 seconds and 21 frames.

  • Between Juniper trees, Grand Tetons range under fading pinkish high clouds

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The finest details are shown as these mid-level clouds above the Grand Tetons mountain range peaks above the tree line, far away. The very fine texture of a smaller cloud in particular, glowing in reds and pinks, lives shortly as the sun fades after it has already set. Juniper trees frame the mountains and span the vertical axis of the frame.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    11 seconds and 14 frames.

  • Pink dusk Cirrus clouds above Lake Tahoe in winter as light fades

    Scene notes:

Lake Tahoe in the distance is seen through trees as the dusk sets in and the upper-level clouds turn from pink to being illuminated by city lights. The snowy foreground shadowed; airplanes are seen far in the sky moving through the frame. Stars come out after blue hour. On the one road visible, traffic moves quickly, and a ship is seen moving from afar.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    59 seconds and 14 frames.

  • Cropped horizon with lower cloud vividly just above moving overheard

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

A small mountain formed on tectonic plate accretion that is the coastal range in Oregon, and a congestus cloud just above shows a nice angle of the cloud from side-on while high up on Mt June’s meadows, mid-afternoon. The cloud billows and transforms in a warm summer day, and when it suddenly meets a mass of dry air from the east vaklley side of the mountain, it disintegrates.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    10 seconds.

  • Fog stratus flowing on gentle air currents under some upper-level stratus

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Many clips of Precipice are like one another, and some share the same scene at different times. All Precipice clips take place on a steep drop-off, even if that drop is out of frame. They all have in common a cloud or fog layer either at below the point of view’s elevation and are at or near sunset.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    8 seconds and 13 frames.
