  • Vast winter viewpoint from Inyo Mountains

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… landscape below with Sierra Nevada range. On the Inyo range east of the Sierra Nevada, one sees deep into the range to the west, countless peaks spanning north-south. A few at right are under stratus clouds, but the large majority are Cirrus fibratus, dense enough to shade the landscape as they pass over the snowy Bristlecone pine-filled hillsides and slopes, which are some of the oldest trees.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 13 frames.

  • Panning w/ red sandstone monoliths at blue sunset

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

On complex red sandstone formations, shadows shift intermittently and then for the end duration as the sun sets. Facing east, with mid-level Castellanus clouds appearing to move away as the camera physically pans to the right, where shrublands lay before the stones.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 15 frames.

  • Vivid light rays on fog through a cypress tree on a hill

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Generally speaking, the foggy forest is not a dynamic source of light- it’s normally diffuse and thick enough so the light above cannot even penetrate it. But when the ceiling of the fog is at the altitude of the observer, the sunbeams highlight the ferns on the forest floor.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    10 seconds and 20 frames.

  • Behind a tall plant, light rays shine and pulse in the forest

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Broad-leafed plant in the intentional foreground stands tall (right) among very long and finely details light rays (aka God rays) created by shadows from branches and tree trunks. The green forest floor (bottom-left) is brightly illuminated. The light shifts with the movement of the sun. The fog has variable density with time.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    17 seconds and 17 frames.

    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    17 seconds and 21 frames.

  • The late afternoon behind some broad-leafed trees in autumn

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Panning upwards to the canopy, a five second interval is used to capture the sun moving lower in the sky as shadows move in the winds. No ground is seen by the end of the clip, covered in ferns and vegetation.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    8 seconds and 19 frames.

  • Vivid light rays, fog brightened by the sunlight

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… passing through trees, hits the forest plants on the floor A stunning forest floor is illuminated by radiant intensity of the sun. The fog bank’s ceiling is just above this old-growth forest. Expanding out from the top left, the sun’s rays pour out, filtered perfectly at times by the shifting fog.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    7 seconds and 25 frames.
