  • Vast winter viewpoint from Inyo Mountains

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… landscape below with Sierra Nevada range. On the Inyo range east of the Sierra Nevada, one sees deep into the range to the west, countless peaks spanning north-south. A few at right are under stratus clouds, but the large majority are Cirrus fibratus, dense enough to shade the landscape as they pass over the snowy Bristlecone pine-filled hillsides and slopes, which are some of the oldest trees.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 13 frames.

  • Medium dense clouds float overhead and away from POV against a blue sky

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

‘Congestus’ clouds high above in the sky, towering as their namesake suggests, orderly in their column of travel. They cover roughly two thirds to three quarters of the frame throughout. A five second interval is used.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    16 seconds and 11 frames.

  • In thicker fog and dense forest, light rays persist

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… and shine when altitudes are just right. Light rays, cast by thin branches create the longest shadows cast on the glow of the sun, with the fog ending just feet above the trees. Mossy tree trunks and severed branches, remnants of them still on their trees, mostly at left, with a smaller fallen tree center-right. A few ferns are in the lower left corner of the frame, quivering slightly in a breeze.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    31 seconds and 3 frames.

  • 2 of 4 | Under peak color Aspen grove, medium-density clouds float by overhead and on mountains

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The mountains of the Sierra Nevada range do not entirely catch the low moving clouds on them, which are blowing and slightly billowing and casting shadows on the snowy peaks and cliffs. Below, the peak-coloring of the Aspen grove stretches closer from left to right. With leaves of varying colors from red (afar) to orange (middle ground) and greens with yellow (close). The age of the trees may provide hints as to the varying colors.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    18 seconds and 4 frames.

  • Single tree next to a footpath is left of some light rays that vanish, reappear

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Small pines by the hiking trail. The light rays are dominant and clip’s beginning and end. There is a period of no fog in the middle of playback. The hiking trail passes by the tree at left. The greens of the trees are vibrant when the fog fades at clip’s end. Lens flare: partially present.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    15 seconds and 10 frames.

  • Panning over Desolation Wilderness landscape

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… from viewpoint of clouds slowly shifting shadows on forest. Nimbostratus clouds impose shadows upon the wilderness scene intermittently. The foreground, a viewpoint ridge which the camera pans over, is intricately detailed with yellow flowers and stone. The protected landscape beyond is a mix of hilly forest and rocky land features of rugged terrain further away, with Mt Tallac visible in the far-distant left.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    17 seconds and 6 frames.

  • 1 of 2 | From Pikes Peak, clouds cast shadows

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… on fog far below that appear to slosh on forest. The continuation of another clip (the camera has been moved). The clouds float over Pike’s Peak, a mountain that is high above the stratus fog below, transforming rapidly. The mountain, a combination of smooth and jagged slopes, careens downward (right). The stratus far below shifts on otherwise low wind. The vista is wide and vast, and the sky is blue with exception of the white Cirrostratus layer and aforementioned Cumulus that plays at point of view-level.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    17 seconds and 4 frames.

  • Slow moving fog before the forest, lit by the morning sun

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

One of the slowest-moving of the forest fog clips. Trees of varying age and size, all evergreen conifers, are the subjects of the frame, while the upper limits of a fog bank is. The sun pours through the branches, and the high radiant intensity on the fog makes for a bright light ray effect. A small fraction (lower left) of the frame is a grassy hill foreground. The greens on the lower right stand out, mossy branches of trees illuminated.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 3 frames.
