  • Hetch Hetchy reservoir in half-fog, with a waterfall

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… in the distance and opposite side of water. The lake is shown from the viewpoint on the hydroelectric dam (out of view) itself. The wind gusts blow on the lake in randomized patterns from the landscape. Comprising four-tenths of the frame, the reservoir holds much of the state’s fresh-water supply and generates significant energy. There are multiple waterfalls visible on the left half of the frame, and fog moves in complex transformations on the erratic direction of wind.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 15 frames.

  • 1 of 2 | Late day Yosemite winter transforming into sunset

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

A winter view of Yosemite valley: a very small stratus of fog on El Capitan’s ridge plays slowly as the shadows rise at an also slow pace. The water of Bridalveil Falls still pours near the right of the frame, mostly shadowed by the land at clip’s end. Evergreen trees reside on every surface that is not too steep to grow on, and the valley becomes Tenaya Canyon further out, snow becoming more fulsome.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    11 seconds and 2 frames.

  • Sunset with shade growing on Half Dome, Yosemite Valley from Glacier Point

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The sunset on Yosemite Valley. The shadows of the nearby mountains and ridges fall on Half Dome last, with colors shifting redder with time. Facing east towards Cloud’s Rest in the distance.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    11 seconds and 28 frames.

  • Orographic effect in action above Yosemite Valley in winter along river

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Clouds drop precipitation as snow in this valley that is the classic Yosemite experience. This clip is the continuation of a clip from Day. Trees, appearing at first glance to be following the clouds up the snowy slopes, cover much of the left frame. A giant monolith, partially covered in mist, appears in the left third, indescribable. A sheer rock face on the right is acting as a blocker for clouds. Farther away, another sheer cliff face is appearing to hold back the cloud flow, all this on a winter landscape.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 16 frames.

  • 2 of 2 | Late day Yosemite winter transforming into sunset

    Scene notes:

The continuation of another clip. The camera has been adjusted with exposure.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 14 frames.

  • Momentary rainbow from below Inspiration Point

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

in Yosemite above Bridalveil Falls. There is a rainbow visible in the waterfall due to the angle of the sunlight. There is a 2-mile hike to climb to get here, away from Tunnel Viewpoint. The rainbow only appears part of the year, and heat-distortion from the day is usually visible.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    32 seconds and 8 frames.
